Self Advocate

Gary Rubin has been an active member of CAU for 30 years and is a respected employee. Gary works part time for CAU as Security and a Greeter.
Gary has solidified his advocacy skills as a 2001 graduate of the Partners in Policymaking (PIP) program through the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities. Gary is also on the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Gary is the president of Helping Hands and a member of CAU advocacy group The New American Movement for People With Disabilities that he co-founder with other members. Gary attended an 8 week training on what is a mentor and is a graduate of our Sid Katz Mentorship program. Gary also is the SABE (Self- Advocates Becoming Empowered) Board Member and has serve on the board for 8 years as the region 7 rep.

Gary is Jumpstart member where he does presentation at schools, institutions and CAU. Gary has met with Senators, Assembly people, Freeholders, testify at hearings, attended advocacy conferences and trainings. Gary was actively involved in having a resolution signed by Mayor Bollllwage and the City Council of Elizabeth declaring March as Disability Awareness month for the city of Elizabeth…

Gary is a strong self-advocate, a leader, mentor and an advocate for others. Gary has received the Colleen Frazier award for his work in advocacy.
Gary’s passionate has always been advocacy, Gary will advocate for all causes.

Gary enjoys spending time with his family, friends and listening to his music.
