Self Advocate

Juana has been an active member of CAU for 34 years and is a respected employee. Juana works part time for CAU in the CAU Chat Center answering the phones, helping staff and also works in the accountant department doing various jobs.

Juana is a member of CAU advocacy group The New American Movement for People with Disabilities. Where she attended an 8 week training on what is a mentor and is a graduate of our Sid Katz Mentorship program. Juana was the Sergeant at Arms for Helping Hands and still attends Helping Hands advocacy meetings monthly and helps out always whenever she is asked.

Juana actively was involved in having a resolution signed by Mayor Bollllwage and the City Council of Elizabeth declaring March as Disability Awareness month for the city of Elizabeth.

Juana is extremely involved in self- advocacy with the opportunities that she has found at CAU. Juana has learned valuable employment skills as a self-advocate, mentor, and an advocate for others.

Juana joy is spending times with her nieces, nephews and her family. Juana is a strong believer in friendship and her friends are very important to her. Juana loves going out with her friends, shopping, listening to her music and learning new thing. Juana enjoys just being a part of anything that will help people with disabilities voices be heard.
