Self Advocate

Carol has been an active member of CAU for39 years and is a respected employee. Carol works part time for CAU in the CAU Chat Center answering the phones and helping staff and members when needed.

Carol in now presently attending the Partners in Policymaking (PIP) program through the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities. Carol will solidify her advocacy skills by becoming a 2020 graduate of the Partners in Policymaking (PIP) program through the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities. We congratulate Carol on this achievement.

Carol is the Helping Hands Treasurer. Carol also is a member of CAU advocacy group The New American Movement for People With Disabilities where she attended an 8 week training on what is a mentor and is a graduate of our Sid Katz Mentorship program.

Carol actively was involved in having a resolution signed by Mayor Bollllwage and the City Council of Elizabeth declaring March as Disability Awareness month for the city of Elizabeth.

Carol is extremely involved in self- advocacy with the opportunities that she has found at CAU Carol has learned valuable employment skills as a self-advocate, mentor and an advocate for herself and for others. Carol has received the Colleen Frazier award for her work in advocacy.

Carol loves going to visit her sister in Maryland and spending time with her family and friends. Carol enjoys going out, shopping, doing crocheting, and also teaching others how to crochet.
